The Third Thread for Tuesday's Primaries

Well, aside from Johnson's gamer-esque attempt at grammatic goofiness (think "Comic-Book-Guy" on The Simpsons--actually, right down to the hair...hmmm), Slightly Less Super Tuesday, Thread the Third, I noticed something earlier noted by The Sphinx. All Johnson adds to the post is one uncertain seeming sentence, "Hillary Clinton has won Ohio...", leaving his Lizards to do the obvious. For those unfamiliar with the obvious on LGF when it comes to this election, I am referring to hurling insults and racial epithets at Barack Obama.

This third thread on the subject has over 1,000 comments so far, none of them left by Charles. The fun really kicks off with the 52nd comment, left by "Chubby Vegan":

Unfortunately, there are enough non-"chubby vegan"s registered at LGF to leave enough comments to really give one the true measure of the blatant racism of the Lizards, which has only reached new heights with their hatred of Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Anyone still doubting the wretchedness of these people need only skim through these comments, or probably any of the election threads. Never have I seen such hatred directed at a man for having a Muslim father from Africa.

Sorry, that's not quite true. I have, at the LGF-spawned site Atlas Shrugs. On the TV program "60 Minutes" aired this past Sunday, several Ohio voters were gathered together to discuss the candidates. One man said that his vote for Obama would be a reluctant one. When asked why, he replied that he's heard too many rumors of Obama "being a Muslim", "not swearing on the Holy Bible" and "not knowing the words to our national anthem". When asked where these rumors came from in the same show, Sen. Obama replied that they were spawned from email and internet smear campaigns, and also added that using claims that anyone is a Muslim as a smear tactic is very offensive, especially (obviously) to Muslims. Spot the difference?

Any normal person can.

The MSM is not exclusively 'traditional journalism'.

The people turning to the 'net' to get their news are turning to the same MSM that produces the paper based news. Even those who are turning to blogs are merely getting recycled Reuters, AP and others pieces.

For instance on the same day that Charles misread this piece about the media he produced eight blog posts. Two were open threads, one was a Shawn Colvin video, one was sourced from Reuters, one was sourced from Australian Associated Press, three were sourced from Associated Press and all via MSM sources.

Charles Johnson: Microsoft in the Mind

Here's a great example of all the bloody-minded bigotry and bile that wells up whenever Charles sets eyes on the word Europe. His hatred of Europeans - their ideas, their views, their actions - blinds him to such basic facts that he really makes a fool of himself:

That’s B as in Billion. Maybe the EU should put all that rarefied brainpower of theirs to work and write their own Intel-based operating system and GUI, instead of forcing Microsoft to give away trade secrets to second rate European companies.

First of all it might be worth pointing out why we're talking billions: because the U.S. dollar has falled dramatically under the reign of George Bush II, so that $1.3bn is now the equivalent of 850 million Euros.

Second, it wasn't a European company that complained about Microsoft to the Commission. It was Sun Microsystems Inc., based in Silicon Valley, USA.

Third, as for Europeans writing their own operating systems, CJ might like to consider that one the most successful OS's of recent years is Linux, originally written by a Finn (with lots of input from all over the world, including the US).

Just goes to show that CJ is an idiot even when he's not complaining about Muslims.

Charles is a poor historian

Charles claims that William F. Buckley did a lot to "purge the conservative movement of its far-right nut cases, the racists and crackpots who poisoned the well for too long. "

Charles apparently forgot that the National Review, Buckley's magazine, was against civil rights for blacks:

Charles Johnson and statistical fraud

Charles usually has the strange habit of throwing around some numbers to "prove" that Palestinians are in fact very well off, and that all this mumble about Palestinian suffering is a scam.

First off, the claim that Palestine has the lowest infant mortality rate is rather bogus. Extrapolating the statistic, that only includes three other countries, to all 22 Arab states is nothing short of silly, and rather dishonest. Because according to the CIA Factbook, there are lower mortality rates in Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan (wait a second..), United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Israel and the US have an infant mortality rate more than 3 times less than the one of Gaza and the West bank.

Aside from that, Charles just can't be arsed to mention that Gaza has about 80% of its population living under the poverty line. Silly me to claim that they're suffering, right?

/update: Oh look at the happiness in Gaza! They're living in risk of drinking contaminated water! What suffering do you speak of?

CJ: No racism here, move along now

Charles Johnson is a great example of the power of belief. Whatever the eyes see, whatever the ears hears, Charles Johnson is still capable of twisting things to suit his agenda.

So when a TV crew goes out to see what Americans do when they witness discriminiation, Charles Johnson turns the episode into a 'CAIR controls the media' fable. It's a lesson in delusion.

First off, he says that "ABC News does their best to set up the 'dumb American bigots' at a roadside Texas bakery". Not so. ABC set out to see how Americans react to bigotry. And, if CJ had bothered to watch the clip, he would have seen that many of the customers react the right way: they are angry at the bigot and tell him so. Thumbs up to America, thumbs down to Charles Johnson.

Next CJ states that the scenario _ a classic 'hidden camera' situation _ has "one actor wearing misogynistic radical Muslim garb and provoking the yokels as another actor pretends to be a Muslim-hater". It's difficult to know where to start with this, because naturally any form of Islamic dress is provocating to CJ (aka the ueber-yokel). If you watch the clip though, she's not actually shown talking to anyone but the sales clerk. So arguing with a sales clerk while wearing some cloth over your head is considered objectively provocative? Give us a break. It's not like she's wearing a burqa with 'Convert to Islam or I'll eat your babies' on it.

Finally, Charles say that its "all designed and staged to show how 'Islamophobic' Americans." No it's not, you chump. It's designed to show how different people react to bigotry. And your reaction, Charles, says it all.

UPDATE: Several readers have written to us to say that there are two further - more sinister - issues to this story. The first is CJ's claim that the hijab is a symbol of *radical* Islam. The implication being that if you cover your head with a cloth, you're in favor of all kinds of *radical* Islamic ideas. By this logic most people in the Islamic world are *radical*. The second, unspoken but increasingly obvious, issue Charles is trying to allude to is the Obama photo. Remember the one showing him wearing a turban of sorts on a visit to Kenya. Although CJ hasn't come out and said it, there are plenty of people in his little lizardsphere who have been spewing nonsense about Obama being a crypto-Muslim. Why, with the picture and CJ's 101 of Islam, we know he's a *radical* crypto-Muslim. Nice work, Karl.

To bomb or not to bomb....

On "Little Green Footballs," blogger Amer1can wrote, "Would be a shame if it were to be vandalized or destroyed. Just a shame I tell you....wink wink STL youth."

Blogger Arthur E. Hippler added: "I suppose dynamite would be considered an extreme response."

See, they said dynamite would be considered extreme! Vandalized or destroyed is completely different.

UPDATE: Still no apology from Charles for the post that incited the threats.

Going with the flow

Somehow, it seems that the echo chamber behaviour isn't limited to the army of sheep lizards, but is sometimes seen in the herder of the bunch himself.
There's no other explanation for this strange post where Chuckles posts about a picture from the Associated Press (The blasted MSM..) that shows Barack Obama in (gasp!) Muslim clothes, with the ominous question: "Another Photo Of Obama In Muslim Garb? Looks like it."

This however doesn't really appeal to the fanbase, who'd rather hate the guy for his policy than whatever he happens to wear. (See the first few comments. Flying lizard moment?)

Charles then hastily agrees, as seen in #48:

I agree, by the way, the discussion about Obama's clothes is stupid. All politicians do this kind of stuff, including George and Laura Bush.

But there it is -- in this silly election, it's news.

I'm much more worried about Obama's ideas. Or lack thereof.

Well, that didn't seem to be your tone in the original post. Sounded a lot like:
"Hey guys, look! Obama in Muslim clothes!"
"Meh, stupid.."
"Uhh, yeah.. Yeah, stupid.. Really stupid.."

If the discussion about Obama's clothes is dumb and unproductive, why mention it? Come on Charles, if your fanbase wouldn't have said that and had instead started fantasizing about the "Crypto-Muslim" taking over America and bringing about its downfall, you'd have mumbled something about the strangeness of him wearing typical Muslim clothes, and mention nothing about the stupidity of the discussion. (After all, he has a faithful army of worshipers he has to keep satisfied, right?)

And if this topic about clothes is worthy of a mention even though it's stupid, then the condemnation of terrorism by influential Muslim scholars must be really, _really_ stupid for you not to mention it at all.

When you call a shovel a shovel..

Charles Johnson of the highly honourable blog Little Green Footballs could not come to terms with the fact that his website is a safe haven for people who passionately hate Democrats, Liberals, Muslims, Islam, the Middle East, and basically anybody who doesn't agree 103% with their ideology. So naturally he will be surprised when it gets filtered out for "hate and discrimination".

Alright Chuckie, how about you prove your site is NOT about hate, by posting about this article? First of all, it'll show that you're probably not entirely engaging in a smear campaign against the Islamic world, and furthermore it'd be interesting to watch your fans' response, which traditionally aren't really that intelligent. Would they give credit where credit is due, or is the dreaded "h" word what they're going to express? Stay tuned and watch the King Lizard do the right thing!

Expect no less than high-quality fearmongering from the herder of pant-wetting soldiers:

This of course prompted the lizard army to whine about other countries starting wars (#1), call for nuking Iran (#5, #8), accuse Europe of war-mongering (#13), scream from the rooftop for 5 straight years (#26), spew out the wildest conspiracy theories about Europe and Russia (#45) and develop over-simplified views of the world (#77). In other words, just another day out at LGF.

Alrighty then, let's play along and see what dire, dire threat this article really promises. First off, read the article through. Notice this:

For one scenario, the JRC scientists assumed the centrifuges in Natanz were operating at 100 percent efficiency. Were that the case, Iran could already have the 25 kilograms of highly enriched uranium necessary for an atomic device by the end of this year.

I will personally swallow all of my left socks one by one, if of all the devices found on this earth, there were any one that was even CLOSE to capable of working at 100% efficiency. Notice also that this part says they could have enough Uranium for a bomb, and not the bomb itself, as Chuckles has implied with his post title.

Another scenario assumed a much lower efficiency -- just 25 percent. But even then, Iran would have produced enough uranium by the end of 2010.

According to the same article, the NIE has stated that Iran can be technically capable of enriching enough Uranium between 2010 and 2015. So wait, what's new here?

This one's priceless though:

Despite the uncertainties, however, the scientists at the Joint Research Centre are confident that their simulations are realistic. But, the group is quick to point out, they are theoretical. They don't make any claim to know whether Tehran is currently working toward the production of an atomic bomb.

Let's see. So this whole report is based on some uncertain assumptions and theories, has next to nothing to do with any hard and solid evidence from Iran's nuclear program, and is made by people who don't even know what the hell their work has to do with reality, rendering it.. That's right: Rubbish.

Why the quote marks Charles?

Sometimes he's bigoted, sometimes he's dishonest and sometimes he's just plain stupid. This however is just odd.

Armed Serbian “youths” in Belgrade have attacked the US and German embassies, and the US embassy is on fire.

Now we all know that Charles is very keen on the myth that the MSM use the term "youths" to disguise the fact that the dreaded Muslim hoardes are smashing up Europe. So much so that he uses the term in quote marks at every given opportunity. One wonders then why he would use it here. Why would Serbian yobs be given the dreaded quote marks? It doesn't help that the article you quoted doesn't actually use the term "youths", that just adds to the oddness of the post.

After all these "youths" attacked the US Embassy in protest against Kosovo declaring its independence and are therefore highly unlikely to be Muslims.

The very definition of hypocrisy

Charles apparently still hasn't got it and probably never will. Seems that he solves just about all his problems by spewing out one hypocritical statement after the other:

Well it was complete and utter rubbish that's why. Which was either deliberate anti-Muslim propaganda or perfect example of what's wrong with 'citizen journalism'.

So there you have it.

The comments which were reported to the FBI stemmed from an LGF post which was factually incorrect. So Charles, you're in no position to complain when it's pointed out your in the wrong. Be a man and admit it.

FBI to investigate LGF?

Mosque threatened, Muslim group says

Another blog, called "Little Green Footballs," linked to the "Gateway Pundit" post, and several comments on "Little Green Footballs," caused the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations to contact the FBI, said Ibrahim Hooper, the council's spokesman.

"We ourselves get these kinds of hate messages and threats frequently," Hooper said. "But you never know who's just talking and who's going to carry out some these threats, so you have to check them out."

It wouldn't be the first time Chuckles has had to speak to the Feds.

Wouldn't it be sensible to delete the comments (which he has done), ban the posters who made them and then posting a brief statement condemning the promotion of violence against Muslims and their property?

Not for Charles, he's reacted to the claims in his usual hysterical fashion, instead of dealing with the problem he's playing around with re-directs and throwing around accusations and posting multiple updates which really don't say very much.

After giving Charles a chance of 24 hours, in which he has happily blogged about stuff like the "Cult of BHO" (That's right, "Hussein" is now significant), his time is now up.

A student by the rather non-Islamic name of Stephen Kazmierczak fires into a crowded lecture hall, kills five students and injures over a dozen before committing suicide.

Of course Charles Johnson was all over the story, providing brilliant and unprecedented analysis on how this fearful event could happen, beside information obtained nowhere other than from the most reliable of sources..

After a pretty high rate of such shootings in random education facilities in the US in less than a week (Four, according to BBC News) and zilch coverage from our favourite non-partisan blog, you'd think that Chuckles - who certainly doesn't live under a rock - would have noticed that something's rather wrong.
So either Charles will try to save his reputation by coincidentally posting about this, naturally after seeing it here.. *waves*.. Or he won't understand why reporting on murderers in American schools should be of any significance, and just carry on feeding his fans with rubbish.

The honourable California-based blogger Charles Johnson has broken Godwin's Law by equating Hamas to Nazis for a term used by a Hamas spokesman that coincides with a Nazi cartoon from the late 30s.

Israel does the right thing (again)

Many of Charles' minions are sure to be flummoxed by this:

Israel will extend gay couples full adoption rights, thanks to a ruling by Attorney General Menachem Mazuz on Sunday.

Previously, gay couples could adopt only if the child was one of the partners’ biological offspring.

“I welcome the decision,” said Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog. “There is no reason why same-sex couples who meet the criteria for adoption should not be able to join the process of adoption and of parenthood. We must adapt to the spirit of the times and the changes that are afoot.”

Israel has moved quickly on gay civil rights since the Knesset decriminalized homosexuality in 1988. There have been no restrictions on gays serving in the military since 1993. In 2000, the age of consent for gays was lowered to 16, to match the legal age for consensual sex for heterosexuals.

Gay couples are given most federal rights in Israel, although gay marriages (which are only religious marriages in Israel) are not permitted. What CJ's post boils down to is: "Someone in one of Obama's campaign offices has a corny 'Che' flag on the wall. Eeeek! Commie!"

Check out this sensationalist headline on LGF.

'Honor Killing' Epidemic in Britain

In a post which includes a devastating one line of commentary from the 'lizard clown' himself he states.

At least 17,000 women are victims every year.

You would conclude that 17,000 women are being killed in Britain every year because of the 'epidemic' of this barbaric practice.

The first line of the piece however (which Charles quotes) puts it into context.

Up to 17,000 women in Britain are being subjected to “honour” related violence, including murder, every year, according to police chiefs.

So that's not 17,000 murder victims then, despite what Charles misleadingly states in the headline and his one line post. Police estimate the number of killings at about 12, which itself is a horrific figure but not exactly an 'epidemic' as Charles states.

Now we here at LGFW believe that one victim who suffers because of an 'honor crime' is too many, but as a label 'honor crime' is useless and unrepresentative.

Obviously Charles highlights this on his blog in the context of painting Britain as being 'Islamized' and the dreaded Muslims importing their religious fanaticism, but in reality 'honor killing' is far from being a uniquely Islamic problem. Immigrants from South Asia are the most likely to be the victims of these crimes and many cases have involved Sikhs and Hindus. Even Christians have been found to indulge in the practice.

None of the world's major religions condone honor-related crimes. But those who are guilty have sometimes tried to justify their actions on religious grounds. I suppose this is good enough for bigots like Charles Johnson.

Faux Outrage

Staying with the theme of "what's ok for Muslims ain't for Christians" Charles Johnson squeezes out a lizard tear for some of the Copts of Egypt who live in even worse circumstances than the rest of the population of that country (though he forgot to mention that being a Copt isn't necessarily a hindrance to power and riches).

Now just think what would happen if someone made a film about the lives of Muslims in East London, or Mumbai, or Shanghai, or Moscow. Do you think Charles and his loony crew would be screaming about the outrageous discrimination they were suffering from the majority population? Or would the lizards be attributing the Muslims' circumstances to their backward mindset?

In response to this piece by AFP (Which he headlines 'AFP Shills for Hamas again'), it is quite obvious that Charles Johnson is either so ideologically blind that he reads bias and twists news at will or that he is a complete and utter moron.

You could do worse than start at Wikipedia. If you want to learn more, why not see what that well-known "communist rag" (Berlusconi's words) The Economist has to say about him. And if you've still not had enough, why not hop over to Amazon and buy a book about contemporary Italian politics?

Senior foreign affairs analyst Charles Johnson has laid down the ground rules for solving the Middle East conflict by asserting that an Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian territory would amount to surrender.

Of course, CJ doesn't actually explain WHY ending its foreign occupation would be a surrender, and he doesn't offer an alternative solution to achieving peace in the region.

Cynics might say that's because Johnson & Co. don't want peace, because they benefit from the conflict and because they don't actually give a shit about ordinary people over there as long as there's an opportunity to pontificate about a war most of America doesn't really understand.

We're inclined to agree with the cynics.

There an important note to add to what the Sphinx said: the fact that Charles doesn't explicitly say "Arabs/Muslims are subhuman," it doesn't mean that this message isn't the subtext of his entire blog. In fact, it was the genius of Dr Spock who many, many moons ago pointed out the striking similarity between LGF's anti-Muslim propaganda and the Nazis' anti-Jewish propaganda. Take The Quiz.

Charles has been trying very hard lately to present himself as the reasonable, non-racist face of Islam hatred. Wishful thinking?

It's funny how transparent Charles can be in his partisanship for or against certain US presidential hopefuls:

When Ron Paul was dropped from the Fox debate, Charles responded with derision. When Duncan Hunter got dropped, suddenly it's "Duncan Hunter counterattacks".

When Huckabee won the Republican caucus in Iowa, Charles is so angry he can't bring himself to say anything much about the result (CJ previously described Huckabee as a "a leftist in evangelist’s clothing" - presumably like a white Jesse Jackson?). When Rudy Giuliani(who got a miniscule share of the Iowa caucus) is interviewed on PJMedia, suddenly the former mayor of New York is a "Top GOP Candidate".

A lot can happen in the next few months, but don't expect your insightful analysis of events to come from LGF. The folks there have an agenda (and who knows, they might even be making a little bit of money on the side promoting certain candidates...)

Number crunching

Sometimes it's the small things that give you away.

Charles Johnson says "Things were pretty calm in Paris over New Year’s Eve—only 372 cars torched."

A few lines down, in the article he quotes, the French Interior Ministry is cited as saying that 144 cars were burned that night in the Paris region. Is Charles Johnson wilfully lying, or is he just too stupid to read properly?

I suspect I’m not the only one who’s massively turned off by the political triangulating going on around the murder of Benazir Bhutto.

Those were the words of Charles Johnson on Dec. 27.

By Dec. 28 Charles Johnson had found his form again, and was busily linking to his favorite politpundits in a desparate attempt to hammer some sort of message out of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto before the blood dries and the news junkie caravan moves on.

Who did CJ endorse? A certain 'Scott Ott' (nasty parents), whose ignorant ramblings Chuckles describes as "serious".

What is the essence of Ott's piece? That European politicians should view the murder of Bhutto as a warning of what they will soon face - unless they muster the courage to confront the Islamic peril.

Ott is wrong on so many fronts, it's hard to know where to start. The obvious first question to Ott would be: have you ever been to Europe or Pakistan, or are you - like Johnson - a keyboard warrior whose entire knowledge of the world out there comes from Youtube and the cable channels you so despise? Then: what exactly makes you think the two places are in any way comparable? And finally: when it comes to attributing responsibility for what happened in Pakistan, shouldn't you look a little bit closer to home and perhaps mention the fact that it was the US government which originally armed the Taliban (now roving freely in Pakistan's lawless northwest)? And don't you think it might be worth scrutinizing the ongoing US support for Pakistan's shady secret service, all well-documented and at times even acknowledged by US officials?

What Ott, Johnson and others like them manifestly fail to understand is that their "bomb 'em all" approach to solving the world's problems is precisely what is causing many of the conflicts and uprisings in the first place. Iraq, Israel, Colombia, Afghanistan, Somalia and Lebanon...don't you guys ever learn a thing? Don't you realize that your ignorance coupled with your trigger-happy foreign policy is laying the foundations for the wars of the future?

Instead of warning people you have never met that they should watch their backs because the crosshairs of fanatics are trained on them (and wouldn't you just squeel with glee if a European politician did actually get killed?) it might be more appropriate if you spent your time doing some proper research about the coutries and people you like to preach about so much.

Step out of the chickenhawk role for once and visit Rawalpindi, or Ramallah, or Ankara, or Berlin, or Lyon, or Dar es Salaam, or Cairo, or Jakarta.

Muster some courage and a few brain cells to challenge a few of the preconceived ideas you have about half the world population.

Give us an informed, nuanced (drat, the evil n-word!), USEFUL opinion for once, instead of the usual mind-numbing drivel that passes for political analysis on your side of the blogosphere.

That's your challenge for 2008.

After the August 2005 incident - which took place during a time of intensified anti-Muslim sentiment in the country and while the San Francisco Housing Authority was under court order to better protect tenants from hate-motivated crimes - agency officials ruled that the break-in at Ashan Khan's apartment was a simple burglary and didn't qualify the family for an emergency apartment transfer, the family says.

According to the suit, which was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, Housing Authority officials also were slow to secure their apartment in the Potrero Terrace/Annex project after the incident to protect the Khans against future break-ins.

"I was really upset," said Khan, explaining - with the help of a translator - that he and his family were harassed from the time they moved in to the Potrero Hill housing development, first by neighbors who accused the Khans of being terrorists, then by threatening graffiti painted next to their front door depicting a man dressed like Khan with a gun to his head.

Something tells us "Zombietime" won't be posting a snarky photo essay about this incident anytime soon.

LGF vs. Bloomberg

Apparently Charles Johnson doesn't believe that diversity and embracing different cultures, religions and races solves anything.

He's pissed that Mayor Bloomberg of New York has the audacity to point out that New York, a city founded and enriched by immigration, integration and diversity, that in the fight against extremists embracing all communities trumps illegal wars, corporate corruption and botched imperialism.

Karl Rove's sock puppet, Charles 'Fingers' Johnson, is complaining about those mean people at Digg.com and HuffPo again, who have been posting nasty things about Dick Cheney.

As our enigmatic regular, The Sphinx, notes, that's a bit rich coming from someone whose blog specializes in bestowing upon its enemies the foulest descriptions imaginable: Alan Johnston, Rachel Corrie, Kofi Annan and Yassir Arafat , to name a few.

Teddy Bear Hysteria

We can always count on Charles Johnson to ignore inconvenient facts. He notes that "Quite a few commenters at the BBC web site think the teddy bear teacher deserves her fate" but never mentions the Muslims who have spoken out against this sentence.

While perusing the LGF front page earlier today, our eagle eye noticed that a person referring to him- or herself as "Bottehond" had posted a comment. This piqued our interest, what with "Bottehond" being a Dutch word and all (literal translation: "Bone Dog"), so we did a bit of digging.

And found this -- a pro-Vlaams-Belang article posted on a website to which a person referring to him- or herself as "Bottehond" also contributes.

It's unknown whether these two "Bottehonden" are one and the same, but be that as it may, we thought you might enjoy reading an excerpt, hastily translated from the Dutch, from the aforementioned article:

GOP in neo-Nazi shock!

Yet another institution near and dear to Charles Johnson, viz. the Republican Party, has been revealed as a haven for neo-Nazis. The fascist loon in question is one J.T. Ready, who is a Republican Precinct Committeeman in Maricopa County, Arizona. Notes a puckish local commentator who refers to himself as "the Bird":

So look who's got a neo-Nazi in the woodpile: the Maricopa County Republican Party. This plumed penman first sniffed a whiff of National Socialism in local GOP ranks when The Bird was forwarded an e-mail signed by the Ernst Roehm of the East Valley, J.T. Ready, in which the turd-Reicher mentioned he's a Republican Precinct Committeeman.

... A call to campaign finance director Kristi Passarelli at Maricopa County Elections confirmed Ready was telling the truth about his PC-ship. Passarelli informed this pelican that Ready was elected in 2006 from precinct 529, also known as Mesa 67. There were two slots open for Republicans, but Ready was the only one on the ballot in that primary. He received 36 votes.

Local Republican bigwigs have vowed to unseat Ready at the next election, but the damage is done. Incidentally, Ready is also a prominent member of the Minutemen, a group of tubby vigilantes patriotic border-defenders who have also received the LGF seal of approval.

Surely Charles, having assumed the mantle of Defender of Respectable Anti-Muslim Zealotry Against Those Who Might Give It a Bad Name, will be keen to disassociate himself and his Party from such disreputable characters.

Meanwhile, in Australia

Dirty tricks Down Under as the right-wing Liberal Party of pro-Bush PM John Howard struggles to retain its majority in Parliament. A group of Liberal operatives, one of them married to the local Liberal MP, took it upon themselves to distribute fake pro-jihad flyers in the Sydney suburb of Lyndsay:

Bogus flyers from a fake organisation called the Islamic Australia Federation were distributed through the letterboxes of voters in a marginal seat, claiming the Labor opposition sympathised with Islamic terrorists.

The leaflets referred to the men imprisoned for the 2002 nightclub bomb attacks in Bali, which left more than 200 people dead. The flyers also claimed Labor support for the building of new mosques in the area.

Howard has made it clear the stunt was not authorised by his party, but the damage has been immense. With only two days to go before the country goes to the polls, it overshadowed the prime minister's final rallying call to voters today asking them to trust him with Australia's future.

A team of Labor officials found five men posting the clumsily printed flyers - the phrase Allah Akbar, God is Great, had been misspelled as Ala Akba - through letterboxes in the early hours of the morning.

The effect on Howard's poll numbers has been somewhat less than salutary.

What, you may ask, does this have to do with LGF? Quite a lot, actually. Leaving aside the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will accompany a Labor victory, this is a preview of the sort of election shenanigans that will start erupting in a certain other large democracy any day now -- with, one surmises, the tacit approval of Republican blogger Charles Johnson. One is also reminded of the howls of outrage that greeted another recent dirty-tricks campaign at a university in Washington, the intent of which was to smear conservatives as being rabid, genocidal Muslim-haters. Which couldn't, of course, be further from the truth.

"There is no information to state this is a credible threat. We remind people to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to their local authorities."

We're a few days behind the loop on this one, but what with CJ's new-found support for sane, moderate politics, we're wondering whether he'll find the time to throw his lizard support behind the US judge who refused to extradite a mafioso to Italy lest he face undue duress in prison there.

Presumablye he deserves only the best that the US prison system has to offer (that would be the holiday resort of Guantanamo, Cuba, according to Charles).

With the case against Brussels Journal finished, rumours are abound that next week he's hoping to find out whether the Pope is Catholic or not.

Yeah, the PRC has some nutcase laws on knives. Blade has to be less than 2" long, but it can be a switch. Go figure.

That actually makes it more dangerous, not less. If I have a big fighter, I'll try and cut off some fingers or something. Hell, they can generally sew 'em back on. A little blade means femorals, kidneys, brachials, and carotids. I have to go for the kill-shot because the blade can't perform the disabling strike.

We posted the Fist Hippy-slashing fantasy from years ago to make the point that Johnson obviously allows "regulars" like Fist to do their thing -- for years.
