New Stone film to tell story of trapped 9/11 police

LINKA couple of days ago Charles Johnson expressed his disgust (or rather linked to someone else's who he agreed with) that Oliver Stone would be making a film based on 9/11. It was felt by Johnson and his 'minions' that Oliver Stone would be the wrong person to undertake such a task. Somebody should point out to them that Leni Riefenstahl is dead, and therefore wouldn't be able to create the kind of film they desire.

How could anyone have a problem with the following story being told?

Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone is to make a film based on the true story of two police officers trapped in the rubble after the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York.

Actor Nicholas Cage will play Sergeant John McLoughlin who, alongside fellow officer Detective William Jimeno, was trapped as he rescued scores of people before the Twin Towers collapsed.

“It’s a work of collective passion, a serious meditation on what happened, and carries within a compassion that heals,” Stone said in a statement. “It’s an exploration of heroism in our country – but it’s international at the same time in its humanity.”

The two men were trapped for 13 and 22 hours respectively, before being pulled from the site during the mammoth rescue operation in 2001.

Sgt McLoughlin said: “I feel someone had to tell the story of the people who were in the Trade Centre before and after it collapsed. It needs to be told how this horrific tragedy brought Americans and the world together to help those in need.”

WASHINGTON, July 11 (Reuters) - The Army National Guard, struggling more than any other part of the U.S. military to sign up new troops amid the Iraq war, missed its ninth straight monthly recruiting goal in June, officials said on Monday.

In danger of missing a third straight annual recruiting goal, the Army National Guard fell 14 percent short of its June recruiting target, the Pentagon said. Three quarters through fiscal 2005, which ends Sept. 30, the Army National Guard stood 23 percent behind its year-to-date goal.

"I can tell you their goal is at risk, so we're concerned," Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon, said of the 2005 goal of 63,002 new soldiers.

The Army National Guard has missed its recruiting target in every month of the fiscal year, last achieving a monthly goal in September 2004, said Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke, a Pentagon spokeswoman. It sent 4,337 new soldiers into boot camp in June, short of its goal of 5,032, the Pentagon said.

The Army National Guard, with about 330,000 soldiers, was formed as a part-time force, with its members living civilian lives while engaging in periodic military training.

Unlike soldiers in the part-time Army Reserve, made up of federal troops, those in the National Guard serve under the control of state governors usually for roles like disaster relief in their home states. They can be summoned to active-duty Army service in times of national need.

The Army has provided most of the ground troops in Iraq, and has relied heavily on part-time soldiers.

Officials said that one of the reasons the Army National Guard has suffered more than the Army Reserve in recruiting is that National Guard soldiers regularly serve in direct combat roles, while Reserve soldiers often serve in relatively less perilous combat support jobs in Iraq.

Time to leave the 101st Chairborne Rangers and join a real fighting force. C'mon LGF'ers your country needs you to fight the war you so blindly support.

The attribution of one's own attitudes, feelings, or desires to someone or something as a naive or unconscious defense against anxiety or guilt.

Yep. That's projection, all right.

These vermin need some serious psychoanalysis. They need to self-actualize; to own their viciousness, not label others.

A well-adjusted koranimal: "I'm a sick and twisted sub-human malignancy, hellbent on murdering Jew babies and paying back the Crusaders, all while legally kicking the couscous out of my wife/wives, and accumulating after-raisins in my Allahbanc account...and I'm OK with that."

Here's a little holiday for Charles Johnson

LINKSeth Sandronsky suggest a tour that would really benefit the ponytailed expert on the Middle East (ahem). Imagine him explaining his views about Iraqi freedom and democracy to people who are experiencing it right now.

To counter the U.S. public's rising distaste for the American-led occupation of Iraq, some right-wing radio hosts are traveling there for a "Truth Tour." Finding truth in Iraq to provide the public with is the aim of these right wingers.

I have a suggestion for them on their trip. They can find truth by following in the footsteps of Kathy Kelly and Voices in the Wilderness, the pacifist group she co-founded in her Chicago apartment.

Kelly and Voices have spent ample time in Iraqi households and hospitals. They were there to report on 14 years of trade sanctions, weapons inspections, U.S./UK bombing missions, and, finally, the U.S.-led invasion in 2003 and continuing occupation.

Meanwhile, we turn to one of the right-wing radio hosts on the Truth Tour, Mark Williams of KFBK radio in Sacramento. Apparently, he is well-qualified to seek truth in Iraq.

What are his qualifications? Late last year, he penned an editorial rebuking the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and Arabs generally that appeared on The Sacramento Union website.

Urinating on Arafat's tombstone was a fitting way to mourn his demise, Williams wrote. The local chapter of American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee criticized The Union and Williams.

The Union's response more justified than retracted Williams' editorial . Later, ADC-Sacramento wrote the California State Assembly Select Committee on Hate Crimes a letter in protest.

Presumably, Williams and his talk-radio comrades will do their utmost to undo the harm done by the so-called liberal bias of the U.S. mass media in Iraq. In this way, the right-wing talk show hosts hope to bring positive news of the occupation to the American people.

For example, Williams, speaking of the Truth Tour, criticized current Iraq war reporting. The properly educated know such journalism is practiced by the liberal media, the bete noire of the GOP right.

"There are a lot of stories over there that aren't being told," said Williams in the July 7 San Francisco Chronicle. "Hey, if I want to see the enemy's perspective, I'll check out CBS or Newsweek."

The reporting of CBS and Newsweek on the attempted U.S. colonization of Iraq, you see, nearly qualifies them for such seditious status. Accordingly, PBS must have nearly attained the status of enemy combatant.

Obviously, CBS, Newsweek and PBS lack the objectivity that is the hallmark of some right-wing talk show hosts. Thus we must leave it to brave souls like Williams to give the U.S. public what it needs now more than ever: good news about the Iraq quagmire.

So c'mon let's have a whip around and collect enough money for his ticket. One way obviously.

Britain spared backlash

CRE Chief Trevor Phillips comments on the attitude of the British populace after the London attacks.

Britain's leading campaigner for racial equality said on Monday the country has been spared a major backlash against Muslims after 52 people were killed in suspected al Qaeda bomb attacks on London.

"What was remarkable about what happened is that there have been so few incidents, that we have not been turning our neighbours into our enemies," Trevor Phillips told Reuters after signing a book of condolence for the victims.

A decade ago, he said, things might have been very different.

The chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) said: "The bombers want to divide this city because of its easy-going, multi-cultural mix. The fact that people work together and live together is an affront to them."

Muslims say they have been subjected to a higher than usual level of abuse since the attacks, including hate mail and attacks on mosques.

But they have also received many messages of support from non-Muslims who realise they have no sympathy for the bombers

In what he felt was a fitting epitaph to the innocent London commuters caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Phillips wrote: "London. Many races, many faiths, one people undivided and undefeated."

How depressing this must be for Charles and his armchair commandos? After all these are the same people who discussed the anticipated backlash thus;

I think that in slow motion the backlash has started...

I'll say the following: muslims are basically tone-deaf about other cultures... They don't understand that there are tabus in other cultures, like there are in their own. Because they don't recognize this, they do all to provoke a backlash. Danemark and Holland are the first step, but Europe is waking up.

I am quite afraid because as recent history shows, Europe can be as bloodthirsty as any muslim group. They don't know it, but they are about to discover it...

It seems that Charles has been sent some information by one of his little 'minions' that British Police were forced to stop immigration checks on Tube passengers. Turns out London Transport weren't happy with police immigration officials using their system to harrass foreign sounding people to find illegal immigrants.

I understand feelings are running high, but targetting 'foreigners' on the Tube just because they are foreign sounding is wrong and pointless considering London's multi-cultural and diverse population. Now I suspect the reason Charles is running this story to demonstrate that curbing the Metropolitan Police and Immigration Service powers could've prevented the London bombings.

Isn't this the same Charles Johnson that reported that the terrorists responsible were 'almost certainly British born' according to.......yep the Metropolitan Police. In other words, the terrorists would've had British accents, British passports, British identification (drivers license etc etc) and a legitimate reason for using the Tube. Police and Immigration officials wouldn't have looked twice at them.

For Shahara's sake, don't hate Muslims

Here's an editorial by Tony Parsons ofThe Mirror that will fly directly over the head of your average LGF 'minion' and their ponytailed cult leader.

IN THE aftermath of Thursday's mass murder, it was one of the first pieces of breaking news: the Muslim Council of Great Britain had been sent so many hate emails that its computers had crashed.

Not true. Or at least, it is not true that so many people felt a sudden loathing for Muslims that they were compelled to bombard the Muslim Council of Great Britain with hate email.

Because it now turns out that 30,000 emails were sent to the Muslim Council from just one source.

Anyone anticipating rivers of blood will be disappointed. It is not going to happen. The British people are better than that.

The victims came from everywhere. Even those of us who live in London must have felt bewildered at the sheer range of humanity who were caught up in the bombings of London's transport system.

The victims, the survivors, the missing - they represent every creed and colour on the planet. They were black, brown, white. They were Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim. They were from Poland, Israel, Indonesia, everywhere.

Those caught up in Thursday's mass murder also represent every corner of these islands.

As survivors emerged from the smoking wreckage of train and bus, they spoke in accents that came from Glasgow and Liverpool, Newcastle and Essex, and it was a glimpse of London's eternal, unchanging heart - a great city where people come to find work, to build a better life, to make a dream or two come true.

BUT one face haunts the pages of our newspapers. One young, lovely, smiling face, and it is the face of Shahara Akther Islam - a true Briton, a young East Ender and a devout Muslim.



Shahara is missing. You have no doubt seen her face in your paper; you have no doubt seen her family on your television. Her uncle does the talking because her father and her grandfather try to speak and the words will just not come. The emotion is too great, the grief is too raw and the pain is too much to bear.

And to those who now talk about "effing Muslims", I say: How can you hate this girl? How can you hate her family? Their pain is beyond our imagination, and their suffering is our own.

Shahara was 20 years old, and her faith meant nothing to the bombers. They were indiscriminate in their murder. They slaughtered Muslim just as they slaughtered Christian, Jew and atheist.

The men who placed those bombs did so in the name of a warped, fanatical, perverted form of their faith. But we cannot, and must not, use that as an excuse to hate all Muslims. If we do, we give aid and succour to the murderous cowards who carried out this satanic act.

Do not hate Muslims because of bloody Thursday. Save your hatred for those who have surely earned it.

Shahara is a lesson for us all. This lovely young woman saw no contradiction in being both a Muslim and a Briton.

She was born in Whitechapel to a family who came here from Bangladesh, and although she could have gone to university she chose to go out into the working world because she had the modern young woman's taste for designer clothes. Hate her? Hate her family? In God's name how? Why?

I don't think I am imagining it, but I truly believe that race relations in this country have improved since Thursday. I feel that people are going out of their way to be friendlier than they usually are, to be more helpful, to show that we are all in this thing together.

The men who carried out Thursday's bombings may be Muslims, but their acts are so despicable that they completely separate themselves from the rest of their faith.

What gutless cowards they are, the murderers of al-Qaeda. Their motto is: "Why kill a tiger when there are so many sheep?" A motto for cowards.

The bombings of Thursday are no more an expression of Islam than the IRA's bombs were an expression of Catholicism. We should think of the smiling face of Shahara Akther Islam and know that there is no place for religious hatred in our society.

That does not mean we have to be soft. That does not mean we have to be crippled by political correctness. That does not mean we are beaten already.

The hideous websites which support al-Qaeda gloat that London is full of fear. Anyone who walks these streets knows that is just a pathetic lie.

Londoners are carrying on as normal - they are a tough, resilient, stroppy bunch. And they also have to get to work to put food on their table and to pay the rent.

London carries on - partly out of the quiet courage that is a hallmark of our people, and partly out of economic necessity.

If Osama bin Laden himself was running naked down The Mall, we would still have to pay our mortgage next month.

That's the way we win this strange new war - by carrying on. By not despising someone for their religion or skin colour. By being ourselves.

But the men who placed those bombs should not mistake our tolerance for weakness. They should never mistake our generosity for stupidity. They should not confuse our belief in freedom for a lack of will.

NOW, more than ever, we need to show all British people that they are valued the same, and that includes the Muslim community.

Has the War on Terror increased terrorism?

Linda McQuaig makes some interesting points in her editorial at the Toronto Star.

It's hard to imagine how the war on terror could be viewed as a success.

Among other things, terrorism is up sharply since the war to end it began — even before the horrific bombings in London last week. The number of serious international terrorist attacks more than tripled — to 655 last year from 175 the year before — according to U.S. government figures.

The Bush administration was hoping to keep these discouraging numbers secret, and so decided last April not to include them in its annual terrorism report to Congress. But congressional aides, briefed on the statistics, released them. It was the second year in a row the administration tried to hide a dramatic rise in terrorist attacks.

This raises the question: has the war on terror actually increased terrorism?

Perhaps terrorism would have increased anyway, but I'd guess the war on terror has made things worse. The heavy-handed methods used by George Bush (and helper Tony Blair) — including invading Iraq even though it had no links to 9/11 terrorists, and illegally detaining and torturing prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay — have only exacerbated the rage many in the Middle East already felt against the U.S.

The war on terror certainly does nothing to get to the root of the problem.

For several years now, a new kind of "political correctness" has prevented meaningful public discussion about this entire subject. Despite the endless commentary generated by the attacks of Sept. 11, one thing was clear from the outset: any probing of the so-called "root causes" would be strictly off-limits in mainstream debate.

Perhaps this was understandable; discussing "root causes" seemed to reward the terrorists by paying attention to issues they wanted on the agenda. But it's also created a wilful blindness.

It's interesting to note there was no such wilful blindness about the "root causes" of the Nazi rise to power. I recall being taught in school about the deep sense of grievance felt by the German people over the reparations imposed on them after World War I. This background wasn't meant in any way to let Hitler off the hook for his atrocities. It simply helped explain how he'd managed to manipulate the German public to win power.

The people of the Middle East have legitimate grievances against America — from the U.S. overthrow of a democratically elected government in Iran in 1953 to decades of U.S. backing of tyrants in the region (including Saddam Hussein in the 1980s) to unwavering U.S. support for Israel during its 38-year military occupation of Palestine.

Until the U.S. changes its behaviour, the Middle East will be fertile ground for Islamic extremists to win recruits — and even some public support.

The truth is the Bush administration and it's cheerleaders don't care. They don't care about the root causes, they don't care about peace, they don't care about the Middle East. They care about their political legacy. They care about themselves. Bush will be remembered but not as he wants to be remembered. He will be remembered as the President who failed in the War on Terror.

So in answer to the question "Has the War on Terror increased terrorism?". Yes it has and it will continue to do so if it is fought in the way it is.

Charles will report on the outrages committed by terrorists but will he inform his 'minions' of the sharp increase in attacks inspired by the War on Terror?

That's it, enough is enough

We've been watching them for quite some time now. Their hate-filled manifestos and their ex-hippy leader. The way they thrive on terror. The way they lap up news of murder and mutilation. The way they claim to know the solution to all the world's problems despite being nothing but spoiled kids with too much time on their hands and a willingness to overlook even basic humanity while justifying the actions of those who would murder in the name of an abstract noun.

The time has come to stop paying attention to what the Little Green Footballs and their 'king' Charles F Johnson are saying. The day they exploited a mass killing in London, the city most of us live in, to further their nasty ideology, that day is the day we stop paying them any attention.

Blogs come, and blogs go. LGF's popularity has been on the decline for some time now and most of its former friends have abandoned it after seeing just how badly Johnson and his minions can twist logic to suit their agenda. We've decided that for all the anger LGF provokes, it can safely be ignored from now on, because Johnson's repeated mistakes have undermined his credibility to such a degree that hardly anyone takes him seriously anymore. We hope we're right.

And now home, to heal our wounds and those closest to us.

Red-faced Johnson was later forced to admit that he'd published yet another piece of weblog junk when it transpired that Amer Haykel, the man in question, was in fact a tourist whom U.S. authorities had recently cleared from suspicion of terrorist involvement but forgotten to take off a terrorism suspect blacklist.

Said Johnson: "I take full responsibility for this mistake and apologize unreservedly for dragging Mr Haykel's name through the dirt. I hope he isn't angry at me and doesn't come round to slash my nice new set of Freedom Tyres (formerly Peugeot Tyres) that I bought when I cashed in my check from Mr Muscle's Fitness Program, the premier advertiser on my weblog."

Charles Johnson posts a howler that even we didn't think he would be capable of:

Now may the almighty strike us down if we're wrong, but the fact that a person called Michael Smith was in the pay of CBS around the time their Bush memos were proved to be forgeries, and another Michael Smith received leaked documents from British cabinet meetings ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC, does not make them the same person, however much the lizards would like this to be the case.

After all, what about Michael Smith The Irish Writer? Or Michael Smith the Canadian Science Journalist? Or Michael Smith, the Managing Director of the Northwestern University's Media Research and Education Center? Or Michael Smith the Polargeek?

Could it be that Charles Johnson, in his zealous mission to discredit anything that might harm the Bush administration, is getting a little carried away by a common name featuring in both cases? Or could all these Michael Smiths be one and the same person? I think we should be told!

PS: We are beginning to suspect that Charles Johnson has been cunningly hiding the fact that he is actually a novelist, short story writer, essayist, and cartoonist, a professional baseball player, a lawyer, a professor of mathematics, a mandolin fan, and the president of the Flat Earth Society.

If CJ had bothered to read the Scotsman article he links to, he would have learned that the allegations of voter fraud are not made against Galloway but by Galloway. Thus, if they prove to be true, the election result would not be overturned but confirmed with a greater majority for Galloway.

Sure, this must be quite hard for cold-blooded reptiles like Charles to comprehend, but someone should have the decency to take him aside for a quiet talk and point out his mistake.

LGF comments to be turned off?

There are all kinds of rumours circulating about Charles 'Icarus' Johnson's new venture, Pajamamedia, and what effect it will have on LGF. One of the most persistant is that the Johnson will close the comment section of his blog because it turns mainstream advertisers off: they don't want to be associated with openly racist opinions. The modus operandi suggested is that the lizard king will offer to create a new, separate weblog for his loyal minions and slowly spin it off from Little Green Footballs, so that he can then present himself as a clean, objective commentator on world affairs.

This, of course, would be suicide. CJ is not known for his insightful commentary. He merely reposts bits of mainstream news that seem to support his worldview that Muslims are taking over and Islamic terrorism is the global enemy #1. Big deal: lots of people do that. The main reason why he is so popular is because every Islamophobia nutcase finds not only there spiritual home on LGF but they can actually join the conversation and discuss 'world affairs' through the proxy-Chukies Ironfist, Rayra, Bigel and co.

Without the comments the lizard island is empty. It's dead. If CJ takes this course his website will be finished: not something we would mourn, but definitely a significant juncture in blogosphere history.

- a link to a TIMES articles about Zarkawi going to Iran (in actual fact its a SUNDAY TIMES article, and proper TIMES readers know there's a big difference)
- And lots of stuff about being a 'fair and balanced' Joe Friday.

What do we learn from this? First, that all Charles really does is regurgitate MSM news items. When was the last time he got anywhere near providing his readers with an exclusive? Second, his selection follows a distinctly unbalanced pattern: articles damning Europe/Palestine/Iran and praising America/Israel/the New Iraq(TM). In between we have a few comments about how deplorable the MSM are (yes, the same ones he relies on to keep his little blog going) and how evil half the American public and most of the rest of the world is for disagreeing with Bush/The War on Terror(TM)/Lizardoid World Domination.

'ADL Audit: Anti-Semitic Incidents At Highest Level in Nine Years'

New York, NY, April 4, 2005 … Anti-Semitic incidents in the United States have reached their highest level in nine years, according to newly released statistics from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The League's annual Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, issued today, reported a total of 1,821 anti-Semitic incidents in 2004, an increase of 17 percent over the 1,557 incidents reported during 2003.

Among the factors contributing to the increase, according to the Audit, were stepped up activity by organized neo-Nazi hate groups and a spike in reports of anti-Jewish harassment and intimidation in America's schools.

Galloway before the Senate, consternation at LGF

Now we at LGFWatch aren't exactly fans of gorgeous George, but we like a good show and yesterday's Senate committee hearing with the self-righteous Glaswegian was a spectacle to behold.

But it's interesting, isn't it, that while Charles has three threads on the hearing, calling Galloway "pro-terrorist" and "anti-semitic", HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE HEARING ITSELF. What is Charles afraid of? That his ignorance about the oil-for-food programme and the allegations surrounding it will show him up for the ex-hippy bird brain demagogue that he is?

Police in Jerusalem have uncovered some evidence that extremists planned to fire a missile at the Dome of the Rock. Though the plan seems unlikely to have been realised, AP has a strange way of phrasing what could unequivocally be described as a terrorist plot.

"According to a police statement, the young Jewish eccentrics said they planned to commit suicide after firing an anti-tank missile at the holy site and throwing grenades at police who would try to arrest them."

While CJ and the rest of the right-wing blogosphere throw a hissy-fit over Newsweek's 'false' claims of mental torture at Guatanamo bay, further details of disgusting practices come to light:

Brooke'[a female interrogator at Guantanamo] came back round his [the prisoner's] other side, and he could see that she was beginning to withdraw her hand from her pants," said Sgt Saar.

"As it became visible, the Saudi saw what looked like red blood on her hand."

When the interrogator wiped what he thought was menstrual blood on his face, the prisoner raged, almost breaking free from his handcuffs.

But "Brooke" taunted him further, said Erik Saar, asking whether Allah would be pleased with him and telling him to have fun trying to pray.

Finally the detainee was returned to his cell without water, leaving him unable to cleanse himself.

One Amp Fuse has an interesting case study about the way LGF in particular and right wing blogs in general treat scientific sources as just another bit of putty to mould into the shape that suits them best.

What the viewers can handle

Charles Johnson is excited about the fact that an Italian state television station has decided to broadcast the late Theo Van Gogh's film Submission (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15813). And rightly so: Fear of offending minority (or even majority) views should not lead to censorship of important documents like Submission. They need to be made widely available so that people can have full and frank discussions about important issues, and where better to make this film available than on a public TV station?

One wonders, however, what kind of attitude Charlie would have to similar efforts being made to show the three-part TV series 'The Power of Nightmares' on US television. For those of you who don't know, the series has been flatly rejected by every major US network because, as one US TV executive put it: "We would get slaughtered if we put this out". The teeny weeny little fact that CJ omits (he has in facted snipped it out of the Yahoo News item he quotes) is that 'the crowd' was made up of "anti-Nazi demonstrators", among them members of the Green Party who opposed the war in Iraq. What's more, it was 'leftists' who took a hands-on approach to fighting fascism by giving the Nazis a black eye or two.

David (of Medienkritik fame) and his bunch of no-hopers were nowhere to be seen. Maybe Charles had forgotten to give them their marching orders...

Charles Johnson: Ignorance is bliss

We know by now that the Little Green Lizard King, Charlie Johnson, is most comfortable when his minions are uninformed and spouting bigoted tripe about things they know little about. It's the 'four legs good, two legs bad' mentality that demagogues encourage because it makes an audience receptive to simple, straightfoward messages that on closer inspection are completely meaningless.

Today, though, CJ takes his promotion of ignorance to a new level, when he lambasts a journalist for doing what journalists do: try and get to the bottom of a story. His target is Molly Bingham, whose article Home from Iraq eloquently explains why she put herself in considerable danger to find out more about the Iraqi insurgency. Her basic point is summed up thus:

[I]f you were reading the news in America, or Europe, how could you understand the full context of what was unfolding if what motivates the “other side” of the conflict is not understood, or even discussed?

Of course this kind of proper journalism (as opposed to selectively parroting what fits your agenda, as LGF does) is just too much for the foaming former jazz guitarist Johnson, who describes her actions as "hanging out with the mujahideen" and urges his followers to "Read it all, and understand how twisted and reactionary the modern American left has become" (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15796).

Yes, 'twisted and reactionary' because they are interested in what is going on in Iraq, as opposed to spending their days online sucking Charles Johnson's cock (metaphorically speaking, of course).

Just to show how little he knows about the stuff he's posting, Johnson serves up this fine mess: 'Guardian Bites the Bullet, Pigs Take Wing' (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15727).

In his post he says that "today the Guardian’s Max Hastings dares to voice the left’s ultimate heresy: Perhaps the neocons got it right in the Middle East." To illustrate just how momentous this is the post comes with a picture of a flying pig.

The problem with this 'heresy' is that Max Hastings doesn't 'belong' to the Guardian in any form or fashion: Hastings is a sleazy PR guru who fancies himself as a military historian. What's more, Hastings is left-wing if you compare him to Mussolini, but only just. The Guardian uses the common strategy of putting the fox among the chickens (or is it the hawk among the doves?) to stir up debate among its readers and make it a more interesting newspaper than one which only publishes one kind of opinion.

Articles by Max Hastings, Mary Kenny, Osama bin Laden, Glen Reynolds - they're there to piss off Guardian readers and make them respond, not to show the Guardian has converted to money-grabbing militant catholic bigotry and to tell its readers to do the same.

But don't expect Charles to spot the difference between a Guardian editorial and a provocative guest op-ed. He doesn't read newspapers anymore, so how would he know the difference?

Report Finds No Evidence Syria Hid Iraqi Arms

U.S. investigators hunting for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq have found no evidence that such material was moved to Syria for safekeeping before the war, according to a final report of the investigation released yesterday.

Although Syria helped Iraq evade U.N.-imposed sanctions by shipping military and other products across its borders, the investigators "found no senior policy, program, or intelligence officials who admitted any direct knowledge of such movement of WMD." Because of the insular nature of Saddam Hussein's government, however, the investigators were "unable to rule out unofficial movement of limited WMD-related materials."

The Iraq Survey Group's main findings -- that Hussein's Iraq did not possess chemical and biological weapons and had only aspirations for a nuclear program -- were made public in October in an interim report covering nearly 1,000 pages. Yesterday's final report, published on the Government Printing Office's Web site ( http://www.gpo.gov ), incorporated those pages with minor editing and included 92 pages of addenda that tied up loose ends on Syria and other topics.

LGF: jumping to conclusions

Charles Johnson holds up as further evidence that the media are biased against Israel a Reuters report about the case of a Palestinian taxi driver who ran over an Israeli and was promptly shot dead by IDF soldiers (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15621).

Why does this demonstrate Reuters' bias? Why, clearly the fact that Reuters gave the story the headline "Palestinian, Israeli Killed at West Bank Roadblock" indicates that they are on the side of the Palestinian, because the Pali MUST have hit the Israeli on purpose, and the IDF only shot him in self-defence, but the headline makes it seem like both are 'equal' victims.

The problem with this reading is that it says more about the bias of Charles 'Icarus' Johnson, than about Reuters. The headline, in fact, is perfectly neutral. Two people killed at road block: one Palestinian, one Israeli.

What is more, if Charles had done some digging on this story he might have found that the version of events where the Palestinian deliberately hit and killed the Israeli is disputed. In fact, the IDF itself has suggested that the Israeli may have been killed by friendly fire, not by the taxi. But minor details (alright, lets call them FACTS) like this don't concern CJ when he's got another piece of so-called NEWS to put on his weblog. Just don't moan if Google ignores you, Charlie-boy...

UPDATE: It took Charles only 48 hours to get the red hot news out to his lizard loons that Israeli soldier Tziki Eyal WAS in fact shot dead by his fellow soldiers (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15656). Of course, the LGF crew still maintains it was the Palestinian's fault because he clearly wanted to run over Eyal. Proof? None needed. And a retraction of his comments about "al-Reuters"? LGF's racist bias

LGF lizard leader Charles Johnson likes to accuse news organisations of 'bias' on the basis of what he thinks their headlines imply or downplay. Well, yesterday CJ exposed himself to accusations of hypocrisy, when he posted an entry on his weblog about a hostage-taking incident in Germany involving four schoolkids and an Iranian (in LGF-speak read MUSLIM) man: (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15427)

Charles' reason for highlighting this incident aren't clear. Uncharitable readers might think it's just another opportunity to paint Muslims as violent crazies. More charitable readers might say Charles is merely picking up on a big news story. But if this were the case, why did Charles make NO MENTION of the shooting dead of five pupils and staff at Red Lake high school in Minnesota (which is a hell of a lot closer to California than Germany is) by student Jeff Weise three weeks ago. Could it be because, you know, Jeff wasn't MUSLIM enough?

Luckily some of Charles' readers (read 1:10) are wising up to his sickening prejudices and saying so or leaving LGF.

The bias that wasn't

One of our trusted readers sent us an email today, asking why Charles was making such a fuss about another AP article (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15377).

Charles took particular offence at what in his eyes was a "ridiculously slanted headline". What did the headline read? It was: 'Israeli Troops Kill 3 Palestinian Teens'.

Charles, how blinkered can you get? The headline is a statement of fact. If it had read 'Israeli Troops Kill 3 Terrorists' or 'Israeli Troops Kill 3 Innocent Teens' you might be able to accuse AP of writing a biased headline, but the one that did appear was nothing but the truth: Israeli Troops. Killed. Three. Palestinian. Teenagers. Fact.

Of course Charles 'death cult violence junkies' Johnson could never, ever be accused of writing slanted copy. No, the man from Southern California knows EXACTLY what's going on in the Middle East every minute of the day, and death to the infidels who suggest otherwise...

Charles posts further 'proof' that Democratic Underground "really are sick" by linking to a item on DU about psychics predicting Bush won't be prez anymore in the fall. CJ says this shows the DU are "wishing for the death of the President".

The problem is, the DU post doesn't talk about the death of the president. It talks about the impeachment of the president - which isn't really the same thing, is it? Never mind, reading accuracy was never Charles' strong point...

2) The Ugly American Left (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15359)

Chazza complains that he's just read "one of the ugliest comment threads I’ve ever seen" over on Washington Monthly. Why is it so ugly? Well, some of the commentators say LGF should be banned. Faaar uglier than the kind of racist claptrap a la 'nuke em all' Bigel you'll find on the average LGF comment thread, we're sure you'll agree...

3) On the same LGF post, a lovable little lizard called Geepers says (#35):

And how else do the cowards of LGF Watch spend their time in "exposing" our rabid racism?

That's right, by actively encouraging their readers to SPAM LGF

pointing to our offer of a free Gmail invite to anyone who wants one. Except, of course, the suggestion that people use it to spam LGF didn't feature. Instead, the Gmail account was described as providing "even more space for lizard spam" - meaning that even if you get 50 emails from the lizards every hour, you'll still not run out of space in your mailbox. But that must have gone WAY over the head of Mr G...

So much for LGF as a 'news source'

On Sunday Charles Johnson proudly linked to an item on another weblog about an incident that was taking/had taken place on a BA plane due to fly from Heathrow to Boston (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15304).

The incident in question was 'reported' (i.e. parroted) by Charles as involving the removal of "multiple passengers [...] from the plane by force." Charles' sole journalistic contribution was to find another weblog skeptical of the incident, and to look up the British Airways arrival schedule to verify how long the plane would be delayed by.

Way to go Charles. That certainly qualifies you for the Pulitzer, maybe even inclusion on Google News!

We at LGFWatch took a closer look at the incident. We called BA and were told that:

• One passenger on the flight had requested permission to disembark


• He had provided insufficient reason for this


• Cabin staff (quite sensibly, we think) called Heathrow police


• Heathrow police (who are always armed, unlike 'normal' police in Britain) boarded the plane and escorted the passenger in question as well as another passenger (presumably someone he was travelling with) off the plane

What happened next appears to be a little less clear: presumably all passengers were escorted off the plane while a security search was carried out before the plane was given permission to continue its journey. This would seem to be standard procedure given the circumstances BUT WE CAN'T VERIFY THIS, as BA had no information beyond the fact that the plane took off four hours behind schedule.

Next, we called the British police. They were able to tell us the following:

• At around 17:00 BST Heathrow police were called to an incident on a BA flight from London to Boston.


• Officers spoke to two men


• No arrests were made

Now all of this points to a minor, if somewhat unusual, incident. It's understandable that other passengers were worried and annoyed by what had happened. What isn't understandable is why Charles Johnson and his lizard cronies immediately launch into 'kick the MSM' mode when they themselves are ignorant of the facts. Why not start with the assumption that the incident was TOO UNIMPORTANT to merit further attention by the MSM beyond perhaps an initial inquiry to BA and/or the police? But of course that wouldn't fit into the lizards' think-pattern. Far easier to blame the MSM for doing a lousy job/keeping the public in the dark, than to do some research yourself and follow up a story you made such a fuss about in the beginning.

God praise bloggers, the scourge of the professional newsgathering industry...

Our operatives in Southern California have been wiring through disturbing reports that the kerfuffle over the Terri Schiavo case caused a temporary seizure of Charles Johnson's brain similar to the one that took place on 9/11. It is believed that Charles has returned to the 'ueber-Lib' state of mind he was in for the previous 50 years.

Unconfirmed reports say the Lizard King will soon be displaying his more 'caring' side, and come out strongly in favor of:

- Gay Marriage (not that HE is gay or anything...!)

- Free trade (just keep out the Mexicans, the Arabs, the Indonesians, you know...people)

- Abortion (especially for Palestinians)

- Rule of Law (but not UN resolutions, goddamit)

- restrictions on SUVs (smaller cars means less oil means less money to the Saudis: you know it makes sense)

- Evolution (the Lizards may be stuck in the pre-Cambrian, but Charles hopes he'll make it to homo erectus (no, not THAt homo erectus!) some day)

Republican change of heart?

While one hand gives...

...the other hand takes. We've been having a bit of a discussion this easter weekend about Charles Johnson's treatment of the Schiavo story. Those of you who also dare to venture onto LGF propre once in a while will have noticed that he didn't take the right-wing line one would have expected of him. Instead, Charles has sensibly pointed out that a) it's all very well to judge from afar but if you're not in the situation of having to make life and death decisions yourself, you really can't pontificate about how someone else should act, and b) you need to take the hard science into account in this case, and all the available evidence seems to suggest that Schiavo is in an irreversable state and has no higher mental functions left.

For his views (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15207) CJ has been getting a lot of flak from his fellow travellers on the right, but strangely he has decided that it's the left which normally takes the hardline attitude towards political opinions: that "you're either with us or against us". Where has this man been for the last 60 years? If anything, it's the left's one big weakness that it tolerates so many dissenting views on the same topic. The right is all about streamlining views, groupthink, rigid adherence to basic principles and the stamping out of unorthodox views. To make out it is the left (or more specifically, the Democratic Party) which drives a fascist line is more naive than we thought even a Lizard King could be, but there you go.

Two cheers for Charles daring to go against the flow on Schiavo. Two boos for the spectacular contortions that see him suddenly claim open-mindedness and tolerance as right-wing virtues...

Yeah, the PRC has some nutcase laws on knives. Blade has to be less than 2" long, but it can be a switch. Go figure.

That actually makes it more dangerous, not less. If I have a big fighter, I'll try and cut off some fingers or something. Hell, they can generally sew 'em back on. A little blade means femorals, kidneys, brachials, and carotids. I have to go for the kill-shot because the blade can't perform the disabling strike.

Not to mention the fact that most people are going to wilt if I pull out an 8" fighter.

A 2" blade doesn't look lethal. Go in just above the pubic bone 1" to the left of the naval, yank it 1" to the right of it. 100% dead. No chance of survival.

The target is the aorta just before it bifurcates into the femoral arteries. If you miss and just get a femoral, oh well.

Personally, I hope they stay home."

Charles doesn't like to be criticized (in case you hadn't noticed) and he certainly doesn't like being criticized by the mainstream media. In a post with the title 'MSM Election Coverage: Incredibly Biased' (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=15062), he holds forth about the integrity of LGF:

Well, let's see, there's the time when Charles tripped over Giuliana Sgrena's car, when he made up a quote, when he helped distort the Dean Scream, when he made up 'facts' about the British education system, when he purposefully misquoted Ted Turner, when he held back some pertinent background information on a student whose story of college anguish he was promoting, when he....need we go on?

It's plain and simple: Charles Johnson is a liar and a fantasist. His weblog hardly meets the standards of blogging, let alone gutter journalism. His bias is so obvious a three-year old could recognise it. And this guy moans about the 'MSM' criticizing blogs for not being rigorous enough with their facts? Give the world a break, Charles.

Without wanting to give CJ any leeway, one of the reasons he trips up so often isn't because he's a genuine wingnut (which he is), but because he jumps to conclusions too quickly. Every report that could possibly support his view of events gets sucked into the LGF-machine only for it to frequently choke on obvious contradictions.

Take the item 'Italy Didn't Plan Safe Escape for Sgrena' (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14989), in which Johnson quotes an Italian newspaper as saying that the Italian secret service "rented an inconspicuous pickup truck to recover Miss Sgrena" (his emphasis).

The next item on his blog, Sgrena's Car (The Real One) (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14990), has pictures of said "pickup truck" - except it's not a pickup truck at all. It's a silver saloon. Doesn't CJ notice these things?

LGF hate figure: Danny Schechter

Charlie has a new enemy: "vituperative far-left wacko" Danny Schechter (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=14977). Why? Because Schechter has asked some questions about the Sgrena story that CJ doesn't like. So what's Schechter's response to the lizard onslaught? To go into hiding? To take back everything he said? Nothing of the sort:

I was attacked for showing "solidarity with the communist anti-war Italian left: Was Giuliana Sgrena Targeted?" Actually my blog is titled differently. Quite differently I asked: "Why Was Giuliana Targeted -- Or Was She?" The words "Or was she" conveniently buried in the smear. The article nominally about me then slides into an attack on Democratic Underground of which I am not a member. No matter.

Spot on, Danny. Charles Johnson has never cared for accuracy or truth when it doesn't suit his agenda. The more people pointing that out, the better.

Talking shit, Charles Johnson style

LGF Überlizard Charles F Johnson is working himself into a Dan Rather over the Guiliana Sgrena story because he just can't - won't - accept that anything a foreign journalist (and one who writes for a COMMUNIST newspaper too!) could ever be true, especially if it involves saying bad things about US troops.

Yesterday, after more than half a dozen fruitless attempts at finding some fault in Sgrena's story, Charles pounces on a shoddy translation of one of her articles on CNN (remember Charles, CNN is the enemy too!), declaring that Sgrena's account of driving "so fast through 'puddles' that they were 'almost losing control'" conflicts with the driver's claim that the car wasn't speeding, and so her whole story must be false. Gotcha!

Except, she never said anything about driving "so fast". Charles made it up. Read the relevant paragraph in her account:

The car kept on the road, going under an underpass full of puddles and almost losing control to avoid them. We all incredibly laughed. It was liberating. Losing control of the car in a street full of water in Baghdad and maybe wind up in a bad car accident after all I had been through would really be a tale I would not be able to tell. Nicola Calipari sat next to me. The driver twice called the embassy and in Italy that we were heading towards the airport that I knew was heavily patrolled by U.S. troops. They told me that we were less than a kilometer away...when...I only remember fire. At that point, a rain of fire and bullets hit us, shutting up forever the cheerful voices of a few minutes earlier.

Why is Charles resorting to such a blatant and transparent lie? Is this all his puny lizard brain can come up with these days? Fabricated quotes? Google News take note...
