Evolution @ LGF?

Anyone not notice how much science Charles is posting on his blog these days? He's gone from almost zero to 100 on that topic.

Chances are that it's part of the Republican Machine strategy to give up on the religious fundies and appeal to mainstream voters who might be unsure about voting for the other candidate.

Or Charles is doing this on his own initiative, in the hope of remaining on message with McCain. In which case CJ is also going to have to start saying something about the importance of stopping global warming; reforming the medical insurance system; and improving America's energy security instead of shovelling billions at big oil.

I really don't think that CJ takes marching orders from anyone, so maybe this just reflects a phase of interest in the whole intelligent design debate, probably sparked by that Ben Stein movie or that crazy teacher who was branding the kids. In other words, I don't see any ulterior motives at work.

I'd say leave him be on this one, but his thread is sorely missing some image of Beakman if you're gonna go for it. lol

So the consensus of "The Watch" is that global warming a grave threat, 'fundies' are the core problem, Obama's medical plan the solution, and the oil companies are the cause of gas being $4.00 a gallon? Boy, I know where to come to get the real scoop.

The disconnect is this case is too large to even attempt to bridge the void.

Charles Johnson is a bully, a religious bigot, strange, and somewhat paranoid. These things I agree. But there is infinite gap between human weakness and sheer stupidity.

Tex: right on. Both about the sheer stupidity of those LGFWatch points of consensus, and your description of CJ.

Somewhat on topic, I wonder what would the Sphinx's position be on an attack (Inshallah!) on Iran's nuclear facilities? Does he even understand the extent of the threat from Iran (hint: Sunni Arab countries have as much to fear as Israel, if not more, especially if they have significant Shiite populations). Somehow I doubt Obama's will to stop Iran, whereas I am confident in McCain.

Well, it's the consensus of scientists at least.

Somewhat on topic, I wonder what would the Sphinx's position be on an attack (Inshallah!) on Iran's nuclear facilities?

I say go for it! Radicalise the Iranian population! It's the only way to get a reliable replacement for the USSR!

"Well, it's the consensus of scientists at least."

The fact that the globe has been warming recently is a well-recorded reality. Anything other than that (anthropogenicity, extent of damage, timescale) are a consensus in the same sense that viability of Freudian Psychoanalysis used to be the consensus of the Psychiatry "science". Ecology, climatology and the computer models used in them are an extremely fuzzy scientific field, most of the work can hardly be labeled with that term. Consider the various computational models of Economics, and their actual predictive power (none). Yet, this did not stop countless research papers being constantly published, and many, many careers built from that.
By the way, I do not speak as a layman in the relevant domains.

As for "radicalizing the Iranian population", I can at least agree that's a threat and a possible disadvantage of attacking Iran (after all, the Ayatollah regime probably still exists thanks to Iraq's invasion, without that, its days probably would've been short) However, that threat is dwarfed by the catastrophe of a nuclear-equipped Iran. Unless the notion of not one, but many spreading Lebanon-like unaccountable, rogue puppet-countries appeals to you.

I'm not sure I get what you mean by the comparison to the USSR. The Iranian regime already does whatever it can to export Shiite Islamism and harm the West, you won't radicalize the regime and its real actions more than it already is by attacking. Or possibly you're belittling the threat the USSR posed. Whatever.

My pet theory is that Chucky, having kicked out those who don't feel the Bush-love and having finally created his perfect right wing echo chamber, has discovered to his chagrin that a right wing echo chamber is a boring place. So he posts the evolution articles, knowing full well that some of his goose-stepping lizardoid minions are full-blown cdesign proponentsists and will be thoroughly pissed off.

The lizardoids don't believe in science as such. They are one and all in very deep denial on global warming, for example.

Ah yes, as in Freud's landmark "The Interpretation of Isotopes" (1900). Do you believe that climatology is the product of a Viennese doctor's introspection?

Ecology, climatology and the computer models used in them are an extremely fuzzy scientific field, most of the work can hardly be labeled with that term.

They are fuzzy, but not "extremely fuzzy" because statistical methods exist which allow usable estimates to be made. Sorry.

And the comparison to economics is nonsense. You are comparing computer models of physical systems to computer models of human behavior. Economists are notoriously naive about the issues involved in applying mathematics to the real world, particularly those issues involved in creating a computer model.

I'm not sure I get what you mean by the comparison to the USSR.

A psychological/propagandistic need for foreign villains. Dismiss that if you like.

However, that threat is dwarfed by the catastrophe of a nuclear-equipped Iran.

What evidence do you have that Iran has highly-enriched uranium?

Did you ever wonder WHY the Iranian govt might be bragging about its nuclear energy program? What is it hoping the US will do?

Right...I guess you the 31,000 scientists who signed a petition a few weeks back who dismissed man made global warming?

Entering "The Watch" is for me like watching an episode of Happy Days...or the Twilight Zone.

Entertaining but not real helpful.

Oh, do you mean the petition that could be signed by anyone with an ordinary degree in any science?

And was signed by a few dead people? I think your sarcasm license has expired, mate.

aw,

Yeah, the one with 9,000 meteorologists and the like. That one. The one with the guy who founded the Weather Channel who said we ought to sue Bulbous Al Gore for liable.

I got this buddy from college. A TV meteorlogist from OU on one of the top 50 weather broadcasts nationwide. I'm asking him a few years back about the validity of this baloney. He says he doesn't know a one expert besides hacks who benefit from funding who believe this horseshit and they snicker about the gullibility of your type in the back room.

I think you need another round of tinfoil...mate. You and the American hating, KKKOs blogging Sura need to go get checked for "Climate Change Delusion Syndrome" before you off yourself.

Maybe so. But I think you and your academic predecessor's scientific weather authentification died about 1975 when you were last telling us we'd be in an ice age by now.

sura,

Now would we still want to call it global warming, global change, global cooling, or the sky is falling?

Like I said originally, the chasm so large that the bridge being built all but impossible.

he's getting good play at panda's thumb thanks to someone called tom sandefur. about every 3rd post thanks charles johnson or little green footballs.

It's interesting - I guess the point is, intelligent design is a scandal to all reason everywhere, but the idea that Third Worlders need to be killed viciously for the glorious restoration of acreage the Intelligent Designer promised to a tiny sect south of Lebanon, according to their own self-report 1000 years after the fact, is sterling science indeed.
The more i see of this crap the more I agree with Chris Hedges latest book, frankly.

If you judge a theory by weighing scientists, then it's worth noting that there are hundreds of peer-reviewed papers that contradict the "consensus".

Back on topic, LGF is attacking the main driver of creationism in the wider world, and that's Islamic.

Where are the climatologists, Tex? And why so many doctors and dentists?

The one with the guy who founded the Weather Channel who said we ought to sue Bulbous Al Gore for liable.

The guy who said that CO2 couldn't make a difference because it was a "trace" element.

I got this buddy from college. A TV meteorlogist from OU on one of the top 50 weather broadcasts nationwide.

Whereas oil companies just can't seem to make ends meet. YEAH.

You're a conspiracy monger, on the same level as 9/11 truthers, and nothing more.

If you judge a theory by weighing scientists, then it's worth noting that there are hundreds of peer-reviewed papers that contradict the "consensus".

Oh for God's sake. That dopey list has been copy-pasted hundreds of times. Most of those papers actually support the consensus.

I don't envy the person who runs this blog. Very ignorant cons come here fronting for Kleagle Johnson.

Islam is the main promoter of creationism, and scientists don't have a consensus on anthropogenic global warming?

Ether of those statements qualifies you for the status of ludicrously stupid ahistorical anti-scientific theocratic imbecile. Put them together and you have a very pretty picture.

Well, I admit defeat.

The APS, and its head cleverguy, Lord Monktown of Benchley, have indeed PWNED all that global warming BS with a PEER-reviewed paper.

Game over.

Is that the "Happy Days" theme tune, Tex? Time for a bit of entertainment before bed.

--------------
Leftists are the problem. CJ is ashamed to admit he's still a leftisty.

1. Global warming is for fools, (look up glaciers covering New England 14000 years ago). 2. Taxes on gasoline make more $$$ than 'big oil' profits. Think about that a second it will define what you believe. 3. Health insurance? Most young people I know do not care much about health insurance, they care about paying for college and buying a house.

Charles Johnson is a guilty Democrat ---a spoiled brat.
