Got a Big Al Qaeda Fish in Iraq

Not completely confirmed but looking good: Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Arrested in Mosul.

BAGHDAD — The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was arrested in the northern city of Mosul, the Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the arrest of al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, was confirmed to him by the Iraqi commander of the province. There was no immediate confirmation or comment from U.S. forces on the arrest.

The U.S. military in Baghdad said “we are currently checking with Iraqi authorities to confirm the accuracy of this information.”

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said that Mosul police “arrested one of Al Qaeda’s leaders at midnight and during the primary investigations he admitted that he is Abu Hamza Al-Muhajir.”

Shortly afterwards on BBC news:

Iraq al-Qaeda chief not captured

The United States military in Iraq says a man detained in the northern city of Mosul is not in fact the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

An earlier statement from the Iraqi defence ministry said that al-Masri had been captured.

But an American military spokeswoman, Peggy Kageleiry, said Abu Ayyub al-Masri had not been arrested.

She said confusion had arisen because a man with a similar name to the al-Qaeda in Iraq leader had been detained.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been blamed for or has claimed responsibility for some of the bloodiest insurgent attacks in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003.

Members of al-Qaeda are believed to have regrouped in the northern city since the beginning of the US troops "surge" last year.

Al-Masri is believed to have helped Abu Musab al-Zarqawi form the first al-Qaeda cell in Baghdad. Zarqawi was killed in June 2006.

In April 2007, he was named "minister of war" in the 10-man cabinet of the Islamic State of Iraq, an umbrella organisation of Sunni militant groups.

Whoops.. Any bets up to when or whether he'll post an update?

//UPDATE: The lizard king has posted an update on the matter (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/29886_False_Alarm-_Not_Al-Masri). It's possible that he owes it to LGF Watch for pointing it out long in advance.. *waves*.. But then again, maybe not, so we'll never know..

So what? CJ already said not confirmed yet, sooner or later, your buddy abu ayyub the Egyptian will be captured or killed, and we will cheer that up, just like your other buddy Abu Massab al-Zarqawi got f***ed up.

There'll be an update alright. About how the BBC is a far left propaganda tool.

hey anon @ 4.05

Did you censor your post with asterisks?

How old are you? Ten?

How polite of you to save our blushes!

It's the new etiquette! Using the word "fucked" in a sentence is offensive. Lumping all Arabs together as terrorist-buddies, however, is not.

Blow me down with a feather, I've just read something good on LGF!

Winslow's poem out-watches LGF Watch and deserves to be repeated here!

So what anon @ 6:49 ? Offended? I don't care.. If I said "Bush get f***ed up", you ll be chearing, if I say "Zarqawi got f***ed up", it becomes childish. nice one .

I'm censoring half of the word for some people and as respect to this blog, there is nothing wrong with cursing terrorists. but I understand your concerns about hurting terrorist feelings.

UPDATE: HE LIVES! Peace be Upon Him!

Please don't let Sphinx write on here, his writings are terrible:

Look Charles already said in the first article: "Not completely confirmed"

Which means he is already in doubt of it. and the new article (update) was expected from him.

There are lots of things CJ can be criticized for, not this one. but I know you love those terrorists, and you feel sad for them if they die, but guess what? Iraqis will kick their ass back. Mourn your Egyptian buddies from now, they will be suffered and dragged into the streets of Mosul.

Thanks that Hosney still ruling and humiliating you and you are here writing in defense of the terrorists, hopefully the terrorists will rule you someday and give you some of their "love". I personally will not feel sympathy to any Arab country cheered the terrorists in Iraq.

You know Tex, I almost missed you. Almost..

You know, you guys are a complete laughing stock.

It takes a very wild imagination (and probably a large dose of narcotics) to think that pointing out how Charles Johnson relies on shaky and false news to feed his horde of lunatics is synonymous with loving and supporting terrorists.

I want the exact quote from my post that proves your point. Good luck trying.

No need for quote from this post, you already stated your love to the "resistance" on and on in comments and posts, you defended them numerous of times. and why you care about this article where CJ clearly stated "it is not confirmed", so what you need more to understand? but I tell you why you are concerned, because your heart broke for seeing Al-Masri dead, if you are against terror, shouldn't you wish for Al-Masri to die?

The Sphinx said...

So showing that Chuckballs was way too hasty in posting his news about the guy getting captured is equal to having a broken heart over him? Do you actually listen to your own logic?

I've got some news for you: I couldn't care less about Al-Masri, and I will salute you if you found anything I said that disproves that.

Hey Sphinx,

You know Tex, I almost missed you. Almost..

LOL. I knew you did and I could not simply leave you hanging. I have to admit to you though, my young foe, there is something I miss about you too.

Who knows. Maybe one day we will meet in the real world and decide we are two peas in a pod. Only thing for sure is that only one of us can be right!
