Dhimmitude: it's not just for liberals anymore

That's the only possible term for the attitude adopted by one Rabbi Yehuda Levin, who is warning Israel's gay community against possible violent reprisals by Muslims against a Pride parade in Jerusalem:

Jewish and Muslim religious leaders say that an international Gay Pride gathering set for Aug. 6-12 in Jerusalem could trigger a worldwide Islamic uprising more intense than the riots and bloodshed generated by the cartoons in European newspapers of the profit Mohammed.

Representatives of conservative Christian groups joined Muslim and Orthodox Jewish leaders last week in demanding that organizers of World Pride Jerusalem cancel a series of planned Gay Pride events, including a march through Jerusalem’s streets.

“We are faced with the prospect of six days of promiscuity and debauchery unparalleled in the Middle East,” said American Rabbi Yehuda Levin at a June 21 news conference in Jerusalem.

During the Jerusalem news conference organized by Levin, Israeli Rabbi Menachem Froman, an expert on Jewish-Arab relations, said a Gay Pride march through the streets of Jerusalem this year could provoke conservative Muslims throughout the Middle East to rise up in anger.

“In their eyes, the parade is part of a whole chapter where Israel brings the defilement of the United States and the West into the holy land and Jerusalem,” he said. “And they react to it with bloodshed.”

Levin said he was not advocating violence. But his statement at the news conference that he and others would defend Jerusalem “with our bodies and our souls” against a gay march prompted the head of a gay Jewish group in New York City to accuse him of provoking violence against gays.

Hear that?

That's the sound of a million wingnut keyboards belonging to a million tireless Dhimmi Dhetectives remaining utterly silent in the face of Levin's blatant treachery.
