"What We've Lost: How the Bush Administration Has Curtailed Freedoms, Ravaged the Environment and Damaged America and the World is a book that has been assembled rather more than written. With great recourse to lists and bullet-point breakdowns, it audits Bush's shortcomings across every department of government, opening each chapter with one of the president's goofy quotes ("It's clearly a budget. It's got lots of numbers in it") then slamming home wave after wave of damning facts and anecdotes: that Bush tried to reclassify "manufacturing" jobs to include people who worked in fast-food joints; that teachers in Missouri were ordered to remove every third light bulb from schools to save money; that parents of soldiers in Iraq were in some cases forced to buy their children's own body-armour vests ("$1,500 retail"), plus hundreds of statistics attesting to Bush's failure to help America's poor, sick and discriminated against. The result is so overwhelming that it reads a little as if someone has fed "Bush, presidency, fuck up" into a search engine on the internet and loosely organised the results. Carter says he intended to write a short handbook, but that the more he and his researchers looked into it, the longer the book got."Link

Every once in a while we get emails from LGF readers asking: "Why do you say LGF is racist? Even if some people make racist comments on the LGF message board, that's not Charles' fault. Charles simply tells it like it is."
That this is not the case is easy enough to demonstrate: yesterday, Charles posted an item about a murder that took place thousands of miles away from where most of his readers live, a murder that has nothing to do with Macs, webdesign, cycling, anti-Semitism, Iraq or the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The murder took place in New Zealand: a young man killed a young woman by dousing her with fuel and setting her alight, after she broke off their relationship. Tragic as this case is, such things happen all over the world, and would go unnoticed by Charles were it not for the fact that the perpetrator and the victim have Muslim-sounding names (whether they are Muslim or not is not clear). This alone is the cue for Charles to pick up a story, post it where hundreds of thousands of people will read it, and headline the item: "Honor Killing in New Zealand" (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12316).
No other news report suggests that this was an 'honor killing'. Nevertheless, on the other side of the Pacific Ocean Charles F Johnson knows an honor killing when he sees one, and can't resist holding this gruesome murder up as another example of how barbarous Muslims are. Does that not strike you as racist?
PS: There is one Antipodean story about honour killing that Charles won't be mentioning: 'Police query honour killing claim'

Charles has an obsession and that obsession is called Islam. He has now posted at least two threads on his weblog attacking the idea that there might have been Muslims on Columbus' voyage to America (one: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12276 , two: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12262_Dhimmitude_101).
Charles, why do you CARE about this?

"Vietnam war veteran and Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry has been ambushed and, for the moment, remains caught in enemy fire. Having made his five-month stint of decorated service in Vietnam the heart of his platform, it is now emerging as his achilles heel.
A group of veterans financed by Republicans from Texas and close to President George Bush are airing ads calling him a liar for the claims he has made about his service and suggesting that he did not come by his military medals honestly. Their case is shoddy, given that none of the Swift-boat Veterans for Truth were with Kerry at the time and their claims have been refuted by those who were. Their motivation is shabby, as most of them are piqued by the fact that Kerry returned home to campaign against the war. All of which makes the fact that their attacks have had such a huge impact that much more revealing.
For since the ads began screening, Kerry's slight lead in the polls has been shaved away. Two weeks ago, before the ads appeared, he was running even with Bush among the nation's 26 million veterans. Now Bush has a 24-point lead. The issue dominating the news cycle is not what is happening in Najaf today but what happened in the Mekong delta 35 years ago."
There are three things we can learn from this. First, there is no level to which Republicans will not stoop to besmirch a character, belittle an issue or befuddle the electorate. Second, there is no level to which the Democrats will not stoop to attempt to neutralise these attacks. And third, that the Republicans will always win in this race to the bottom because so much less is expected of them and, when it comes to muck-slinging, they have no qualms about getting their hands dirty.

What an about-face! One moment Charles is encouraging his filthy spawn to vent their hatred of all British journalists (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12122), the next he's praising them to high heaven because they are "covering Kerry's Credibility Problems": http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12132.
Charles Johnson: having his tea and scones and eating them.

Another fine example of the kind of twisted logic that fills the minds of readers Little Green Footballs. Normally, LGF readers express unmitigated outrage when someone is kidnapped by one of Iraq's many armed groups and threatened with death unless certain conditions are met. Then, if that person is killed LGF readers scream blue murder, presumably at the injustice of taking the life of an 'unarmed civilian' (which in LGF parlance includes armed mercenaries). But if, heaven forbid, the hostage should be released, LGF readers, rather than breath a sigh of relief that an innocent life has been spared, round on the victim and condem him thoroughly for not providing another dose of Internet snuff to the bloodthirsty geeks at LGF.
Case in point: British freelance journalist, James Brandon. Here are some of the views expressed by LGF readers on his release (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12122_British_Journalist_Thanks_Mujahideen#comments):

Bummer! Bet he was from BBC too! Rats! [Actually, he was freelancing for the Telegraph, the Scotsman and CS Monitor]

I had an awful thought this morning, when they showed the reporter on CNN.... At first I was concerned for him, but as soon as they said "British reporter", I flipped the channel and thought "F*ck him".
#21 Craig Abu Al-Boo-Boo 8/13/2004 09:24AM PST
This whole story stinks to high heaven, and I think he's making it up for publicity.
Luckily, one LGF reader has mercy on Mr Brandon:
#56 Dar ul Harb 8/13/2004 10:14AM PST
Even though he's BBC tool, he deserved to be released.
Geee, thanks, EVEN THOUGH he's "BBC tool"? That's...so compassionate!

Not known for holding back when it comes to expressing their hatred of all those who hold opposing views, the minions of LGF lizard lord Charles F Johnson really let loose their blind bloodthirst the other day under a posting called 'Biased British Writer Denied (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12115_Biased_British_Writer_Denied#comments).
The posting concerned an ISM activist who was denied entry to Israel by Israeli security officials because apart from being engaged in protest actions she was also reporting unfavourably (for Israel) on the Middle East conflict. A clear case of pre-emptive censorship, you might say.
LGF regulars not only applauded the barring of critical voices from Israel, they further suggested that the 'British Writer', whose name is Ewa Jasiewicz, should be raped and killed for her efforts to shed light on the conflict - and for being Polish. Some choice quotes:
#3 Paranoid Brit 8/12/2004 06:00PM PST
I'd break out some nice recently-captured AK47's, fly Bigel in and point her out while she's 'journalistin'.
#11 bigel 8/12/2004 06:12PM PST
BTW, the name sound pretty Polish to me.
Just shows you that Poles are still psychotic Nazi Jewhaters.
#66 whiterasta 8/12/2004 07:19PM PST
I hope that poisnous [sic] witch gets gang raped by her pals one fine day, soon.
#73 transferthem 8/12/2004 07:53PM PST
Shame the IDF didn't shoot this piece of crap before sending it back where it came from.
#76 Godzilla 8/12/2004 08:09PM PST
Although no one's asking me, I saw [sic] she gets locked up in a room with a dozen horny and viciously drunk Hell's Angels bikers having a bad day, and then after that she gets taped into a burqua and shipped off to some sleazy middle eastern harem that only accepts horribly broken women as slaves.
#102 bigel 8/13/2004 06:50AM PST
As far as Robert Fisk goes, maybe we can get him in a locked room with an armed John Malkovich?
...you get the picture. Does Charles realise what is happening on his message board? Does he condone comments which advocate the sexual denigration, mutilation and killing of unarmed civilians?

Bnei Sakhnin set for UEFA Cup first (Haaretz)
"Bnei Sakhnin will set a precedent in European soccer tonight (8:40 P.M., live on Channel 10) by becoming the first Arab side to compete in a UEFA competition, when they play Partizani Tirani of Albania at the National Stadium in Ramat Gan.
"Excitement is mounting in the small town set in the verdant Galilee hills in northern Israel, as the team prepares for its UEFA Cup second qualifying round tie. Sakhnin earned its place after last May's emotional 4-1 State Cup victory over Hapoel Haifa. " (link)
UPDATE: Sakhnin thrashed Partizani 3:0

"The wording of the justification of such action may differ from one country to another, but the gist is always the same: undermining state security (normally code for criticising the leadership); providing a platform for terrorists (usually means political opposition); and insulting the people of the country (normally means criticising a failed policy)."

One of CJ's frequent tactics for establishing moral equivalence where none exists is to make off-hand comparisons between events happening in 2004 and things that happened between 1933-1945. He's just expressing his opinion, you might argue, before you realise that Charlieboy is himself vehemtly opposed to simplistic parellels being drawn between the horrors of the holocaust and WWII and what is happening in the world today (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=11483 and http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=11373).
Two examples of Johnson's hypocrisy appear here ('Exhumation' http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12092) and here ('Fourth Estate = Fifth Column' http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12083).
In the former instance he posts a Cox & Forkum cartoon depicting the hand of 'Islamism' reaching out for the spectre of Nazi-era anti-semitism. What is Charles trying to tell us here? That Jews are being rounded up and sent to work or death camps? That gypsies are being used for macabre eugenics experiments? That the world is about to see people of certain ethnicities and ideologies labelled with branded enemies of the people, their property confiscated and their rights stripped?
In the second example The Great Lizard King tells us that the mujahideen pictured in a photograph shown on Yahoo News is the equivalent of "bravely posing Waffen SS stormtroopers firing their weapons at Allied soldiers". Notice the subtle inference: The loosely organised Mujahideen rabble doing battle with an occupying force of highly equipped and trained US soldiers are in reality the evil footsoldiers of a murderously expansionist ideology intent on wiping non-Aryans off the face of the earth. Who knows, maybe after they've been ground into the dust we'll be hearing stories from Charles about rogue Mujahideen living covertly in South America, trying desperately to clone Osama bin Laden?
As usual on LGF, no one cares about such distortions. No one even notices.

"The far-right wing of the country—nearly one third of us by some estimates—continues to regard all who refuse to drink the Kool-Aid (liberals, rationalists, Europeans, et cetera) as agents of Satan. Bush could show up on video canoodling with Paris Hilton and still bank their vote. Right-wing talking heads continue painting anyone who fails to genuflect deeply enough as a "hater," and therefore a nut job, probably a crypto-Islamist car bomber. But these protestations have taken on a hysterical, almost comically desperate tone. It's one thing to get trashed by Michael Moore. But when Nobel laureates, a vast majority of the scientific community, and a host of current and former diplomats, intelligence operatives, and military officials line up against you, it becomes increasingly difficult to characterize the opposition as fringe wackos." It seems like Charles Johnson just received his PhD in bullshitology (that's the science of calling everything you don't like the look of bullshit). Passing verdict that journalist Antonia Zerbisias is a "Certified grade-A Canadian moonbat", Charlie Boy berates her for "whining" about the fact that she receives hate mail every time she writes a piece about the Middle East (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12017).
CJ then diagnoses Zerbisias with "Moonbat Speech Suppression, a strange paranoia-related condition", because she reports that many journalists find certain topics too hot to handle anymore due of the barrage of condemnation they receive if they report in the 'wrong' way.
What suppression of speech? What death threats? Surely not from people like Charles F Johnson, who accuse journalists of being "antisemitic columnists" at a drop of a hat?

Bike-riding weblogger Charles F Johnson doesn't like it when the image of America is desecrated abroad. Never mind that he happily caricatures the rest of the world as 'pro-terrorist' or suchlike, when it comes to saying that lots of Americans are fat he draws the line. So it's not surprising that he has taken issue with a booklet distributed by German franchises of the American 'Subway' food chain, which depict a giant hamburger crashing through a cityscape while fat little cartoon characters run away screaming. It's clearly a disgraceful reference to 9/11, say's Charles (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=12004). Or is it? Here's the picture:
Now to us it looks more like the Hamburger is a take on 'Godzilla'. Notice how it's not flying, or being directed by terrorists? But you wouldn't expect Charles to pick up on such subtleties...

Have you forgotten that President George Bush (jnr) has presided over a period in American history in which civil liberties have been curtailed on an unprecedented scale?
Have you forgotten that the Bush family has close ties to the Saudi bin Laden family, whose son Osama was implicated in the September 11th attack?
Have you forgotten that Bush took America to war - twice? First in Afghanistan, where he drove out the Taliban (which America had previously supported) but failed to catch Osama bin Laden? Then he went to war with Iraq claiming the country was a major threat to America and posessed weapons of mass destruction - both of which was a lie.
Have you forgotten that under President Bush regard for America around the world plummeted?
Have you forgotten that the world is now a much less safe place than before Bush was elected?
Have you forgotten that Bush war in Iraq caused the death of at least 11,000 Iraqi civilians? That's nearly four times as many as were killed by terrorists on September 11th 2001.
Have you forgotten that nearly 1,000 US men and women died in Iraq because Bush lied?
Have you forgotten?
